What is an aesthetician and how can they help you?

An Aesthetician is a licensed skin care therapist. Aestheticians provide services that help your skin through some difficult skin conditions such as dryness, excess oil, acne and discoloration. They are also there to help assist the client with ongoing maintenance and choosing the correct home care products. By law, an aesthetician can only perform superficial services to the skin. This means we cannot penetrate the skin beneath the outer most layers of the skin, the stratum corneum. Some of the many services an aesthetician can offer are facials, light chemical peels, microdermabrasions, massage, and makeup application. Some aestheticians also perform depilatory services for hair removal such as waxing.

Where do Aestheticians perform their services?

Typically, the aesthetician was found in the salons along side the hair dressers and manicurist. Today, you can find an aesthetician working in a Day Spa, Medi Spa and/or a physician’s office. More and more physicians are hiring aestheticians to work in their practices because of the many benefits they bring to the practice. Patients are beginning to take notice of their skin and realize there are things they can to that are non invasive and can help improve the health of their skin by working with an aesthetician and following their skin care plans.

Here at MySkinFX, one of our passions is to take the aesthetician out of the spa or medical office and bring them right into your homes. We have designed a fun and exciting way to bring the aesthetician right into your home. This is called a "Facial Party". A licensed skin care therapist will come into your home and set up individual stations for your guests to take part in giving themselves their own facial. This is done in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The intention of these parties is to educate the consumer on what technologies and products actually make a difference in the health of our skin.

How can Aestheticians help other Aestheticians?

This page was also designed to host a network of top of the line Aestheticians. Another passion of ours is to develop a network of Aestheticians not only to assist the consumer in choosing a skin care professional in their area, but to help aestheticians share their experience with others to become top of their game in this competitive industry.

We also want to help educate the post graduate Aesthetician. MySkinFX is developing an extended education program. Our medical team is excited to share their experience, strength and hope with you to help further your education and give you, the aesthetician, the confidence to go out and educate the public on good skin care habits. The cosmeceutical industry is forever changing and we, fellow aestheticians, should band together and educate the public on how important it is to take care of their skin and prevent sun damage that can lead to skin cancer.
